I definitely should have done this for all of you back in November, when I was coming up with one for the editors at work. HOWEVER, it's better late than never I suppose, and I always find it useful to have a comprehensive guide to what is hot for the coming season.
So let us begin with the biggest trend of the lot, the classic and much loved...
...DENIM
It's everywhere. Whether you go head-to-toe à la Chloé, Fendi, and Gucci, or get creative with your glue gun and add gem stones like Dolce & Gabbana, just make sure there's not a rip in sight. This season, denim is in muted darker washes, and it is tailored and embellished like never before.
STRIPES
Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, it doesn't matter, just as long as it is bold. Think less sailor, more Dennis the Menace, and that will keep you on the straight and narrow (sorry!).
VIOLET
OK, a pastel-like colour for Spring/Summer, who'd have thought it, right? But this isn't just any pastel colour, this is the most elegant of them all. Violet, lilac, lavender, and mauve, they're all good, and there is no garment unturned. Ah, I LOVE it.
SUEDE
Now for another nod to the Seventies this season, glamorous suede is dyed a multitude of satisfying tones, and used for both structural pieces, as well as floaty skirts and dresses. Now go get out that old favourite fringed cropped jacket.
BOHO-WHITES
Here we go again with the 70s vibe! Only this time, it is mixed with Victoriana influences. Broderie anglaise, lace, and intricate cutwork are paired with gladiator sandals of all shapes and sizes, creating a most precious and luxe-bohemian feel.
VINTAGE ROCK & ROLL
Stars, snakeskin, feathers, and sequins, this look is inspired by the glamorous groupie. There is no such thing as too much with this look, unless you are planning to brush your hair.
EVENING MILITARY
From subtle hints to full on uniform, Military style was interpreted in various eye-catching ways on the catwalks. Whether it's a khaki shirt dress you prefer, or a waist conscious coat, make sure you add a little gleam to your uniform.
DEEP-SEA
No need to book your tickets to the Bahamas, the SS15 collections will bring the sea right to your door. With beautiful flowing fabrics in sub-marine hues, this trend will "sea" you right.
MARTIAL ARTS
We are looking to the east this season, as designers take their cue from the traditional karate gi. Grab your Obi belt, and make sure the palette is neutral and soft.
NATURE ON SPEED
Sorry for the name, but it is the best way I can describe it. Cartoonish flowers and clashing prints jump from some of the collections this season. The bolder the better.
HOLOGRAPHIC
Think futuristic and high-octane. Silvers, blues, golds, purples, and pinks, no colour escapes this rave-worthy fabric.
GINGHAM
Time to get out those picnic dresses. No, literally, only print that wouldn't look out of place with your cocktail sausages and cucumber sandwiches perched on top need apply. 60s shifts, cinched in waists, full skirts, no ladylike silhouette was left behind.
Tune in next week for the accessories edit!
